Another local favorite is the Kokanee, a type of Sockeye Salmon that thrives in the warmer waters from July through October. Although much smaller than the Mackinaw, averaging around 2 pounds, Kokanee are mostly found in waters at least 90 feet deep, making boat fishing essential if you want to find them! If you’re lucky, you might catch them changing color from silver to bright red in October as they migrate to their spawning grounds at Taylor Creek.
